This stage was built about a century ago by the late Robert Sacrey of Paquet, historically a fishing and logging community, in White Bay on Newfoundland's Baie Verte Peninsula. Sacrey's grandson used the stage for fishing work from 1986 to 1999, when he retired from the fishery. In 2007 he restored his grandfather's stage with support from the Fisheries Heritage Preservation Program, saying, "I would like to see it remain for children or grandchildren to visit when they return to our hometown, and for a tourist attraction to enchance our town waterfront."
The restoration work included replacing the deck on front of the stage, installing some new cribbing, roof repairs, installing windows, replacing siding, and painting.
"My goal was to keep the way of our lifestyle alive for our kids and grandkids," says Sacrey. "The building looks great and enhances the look of the area."
