  Restoration Projects: Templeman

The fishing community of Templeman, once known as Fox Cove, is now part of the Municipality of New-Wes-Valley, on the north side of Bonavista Bay.  Settlers with surnames including Templeman, Tuff, Howell and Vincent came to Fox Cove from nearby islands like Bennett's Island, Cobbler's Island, and Pinchard's Island at least by the 1870s.

The Howell fishing premises in Worm Cove in the shallow, rocky harbour at Templeman includes a two-storey stage, a wharf and flakes constructed circa 1930 to 1955.  The stage was constructed from the current owner's grandfather's former house and local clapboard.  The fishing stage was used for the usual purposed until the 1960s.  Since then it has been used for storage and, more unusually, for church services at Christmastime.

Work completed on the Howell Stage under the Fisheries Heritage Preservation Program included replacing decaying wooden shores, along with flashing and eaves, repairing the roof, rebuilding four doors, and painting.
