Donovan's Stage - Melrose
Donovan's Stage sits among a collection of fisheries buildings maintained by William Donovan of Melrose. The premises have been used for five generations, three of these by members of the Donovan family. The buildings, including the stage, are still used for fisheries purposes. While regular maintenance has been carried out on the buildings over the years, the stage needed some repairs to ensure its continued longevity.

With the assistance of the Fisheries Heritage Preservation Program, Mr. Donovan stabilized the foundation supports, installed a new roof covering, replaced doors and made improvements to the walls. New lumber was used for the wall boards in addition to some lumber that had been salvaged from a dismantled building. A fresh coat of red paint was the finishing touch.
A unique feature of the stage is that it has no exterior cladding. Instead, the wall beams are exposed on the exterior. In the past, Donovan's Stage has drawn attention from locals and visitors alike. With the improvements to the structure it will continue to do so for years to come.
